Gerunds and Infinitives

Gerunds are verbs ending in -ing that act as nouns (e.g., Swimming is fun), used as subjects or after prepositions and certain verbs (enjoy, stop). Infinitives are the base form of the verb, often with to (e.g., to swim), used after many verbs (want, need) and adjectives. The choice is always determined by the preceding word.
