  • Past Perfect Simple: had + past participle (completed action before another past action)
💬A Conversation at Work
Anna: Hi, Lucas! You looked exhausted yesterday at the meeting. What you (do) all afternoon?
Lucas: I (work) on the report for three hours before the meeting started.
Anna: Really? I thought you (finish) it earlier.
Lucas: No, I (not finish). In fact, I (not sleep) well all week because of this project.
Anna: That explains it. When I called you at 10 p.m., you (study) the numbers for the presentation.
Lucas: Exactly. I didn't hear the phone. But tell me, you (check) the data before the meeting?
Anna: Yes, I (check) everything carefully, and I sent it to the manager.
Lucas: That helped a lot. But why you (help) me with the slides?
Anna: Because you (not ask) me for help!
