Ferdinand, The Gentle Bull

This is a story about Ferdinand. He is a bull. But Ferdinand is different. It seems like from the moment you are born, people think you must be one way. But Ferdinand loves flowers, not fighting!

Ferdinand grows up very big. You look at him and think “big”. You also think “scary”. But Ferdinand says, “I’m not a fighting bull.” It’s not that simple to be different, especially when it comes to bulls.

One day, Ferdinand goes to a place where bulls train to fight. Other bulls say, “You just have to act like a fighting bull.” They show him how to be strong. They say, “Oh, come on little guy!” when he doesn’t want to fight. They might even say, “See that barrel over there?” for practice.

But Ferdinand is still gentle. He tries to escape. He takes baby steps, baby steps to find his home. He also makes new friends like a goat and some hedgehogs. He helps them.

In the end, Ferdinand goes to the big bullring. Does he fight? No, he does not! He shows everyone that bulls can be kind and gentle. He shows them that it is okay to be yourself. Ferdinand is a hero because he stays true to who he is.
